Meet The Team

Founded in 2011 by Charles “Brandon” Boyd, Ruin Creek Animal Protection Society (RCAPS) in Henderson, NC, focuses on rescuing animals from euthanasia. Brandon’s childhood love for animals led him to start the organization, driven by a personal conviction to save impounded animals facing grim fates. Over the years, RCAPS has achieved significant milestones, providing emergency medical care, hope, and love to thousands of animals. The Rescue Coordinator, Michelle Wood, and dedicated volunteers prepare for the weekly “Ride to Freedom,” where transport driver Ricky covers nearly 1,000 miles to deliver animals to safety along the Eastern Seaboard. With shelter intakes at a high, new donors are crucial for sustaining these efforts. Your support can help create more happy endings for animals in need.

President

Mary is a native of Henderson, NC and has always had a love and desire to help homeless, abused, and mistreated animals. She has rescued and adopted for her own a countless number of animals both large and small. Even during her retirement years she continues to oversee the daily operations of Ruin Creek Animal Protection Society and gladly opens her home to animals in need of rescue. Mary and her husband, Charles, donated the property where the Vance County Animal Shelter is currently located. The great relationship that she has established with the shelter staff has contributed to the well being of so many animals impounded there.

Mary Boyd

Vice President

In 2013, Michelle discovered RCAPS through a volunteer post and fell in love with helping animals. She dedicated weekends to tasks like photography, posting adoption ads, managing the RCAPS page, and aiding in animal transport. By 2014, she officially became the Rescue Coordinator, spending 5-6 days weekly at the shelter as a photographer, evaluating animals, and coordinating with vets. Michelle’s relentless efforts established crucial connections with rescues along the east coast, saving thousands of lives. Ruin Creek Animal Protection Society owes its success to her unwavering dedication and passion.
