Foster Program

Why Should I Foster an Animal?

By fostering you will be helping RCAPS in a huge way. You will not only help us by freeing up a kennel for another animal in need, but you will be invaluable in helping an animal, otherwise overlooked, attract a loving rescue and become an RCAPS graduate.

Maybe our Foster Program is an option for you!

By becoming a foster for the Ruin Creek  Animal Protection Society, you will be helping RCAPS in an important way. You will not only help us by freeing up a kennel for another animal in need, but you will be invaluable in helping an animal, otherwise overlooked, attract a loving rescue and become an RCAPS graduate.

Our Foster Education and Foster Support focuses on various aspects of the foster experience: basic care, health, training and supplies needed to properly care for your foster animal. As RCAPS does not offer direct adoptions, your foster care commitment would be to give immediate respite to a long term shelter resident waiting for rescue, help make space in an overly full shelter and prevent needless euthanizations, offer an alternative for animals struggling to thrive and be their best selves in the shelter system, a medical or pregnancy situation and in some occasions, a hospice situation.

Once you have decided to join our Foster Team, we will complete a home visit and work with you to best match an animal or type of foster to your home.

A Foster Support Volunteer is available via phone or message at any time if you need to reach out with questions or concerns about your foster animal. This support is open to anyone interested in fostering a dog or cat for RCAPS, and/or becoming a better animal caretaker in general. Our program aims to help people prepare themselves for what’s expected when fostering an RCAPS animal, how to deal with challenges, and how to prepare one’s self, family and home for the journey.
